L&T to construct Cable-Stayed Bridge across the Brahmaputra River in Assam
L&T Construction’s Transportation Infrastructure Business has achieved a notable project contract to construct the Palashbari to Sualkuchi Cable-Stayed Bridge across the Brahmaputra River in Assam.The Public Works Roads Department (PwRD), Assam, has granted the project to build a 12.21 km bridge with approaches that connects Palashbari and Sualkuchi. Both communities will be immediately connected by the bridge.One of the biggest weaving hubs in the world, Sualkuchi village produces traditional Assamese clothing using locally sourced fabrics like Muga, the golden silk that is unique to the area. The bridge would provide direct access to Assam’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU).The project has a 5.61 km approach on the Palashbari side and a 3.0 km approach on the Sualkuchi side, the project will include a 3.6 km cable-stayed bridge segment. The extradosed cable-stayed part will have a maximum span of 165 meters. The project is expected to be finished in forty-eight months.
