Construction Of Mumbai Metro Line-12
The construction of Mumbai Metro’s Line-12 (Orange Line), which would connect Kalyan, Dombivali, and Amandoot (Taloja) via elevated 19 stations, was formally started on Sunday by the chief minister of Maharashtra.
At an estimated cost of Rs 4,132 crore, the Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) of Mumbai would construct Line-12, a 22.17 km long southern extension of the 23.53 km long Line-5 (Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan), which is now under construction.
The MMRDA expects the line to open by the end of 2027, which seems incredibly ambitious for a metro rail project in the Mumbai MMR region. The project has a strict 30-month construction timetable.
The longest EPC package in India’s metro construction history is Package CA-240, which is 22.17 km long and is being used for the building of Line 12. At present the longest is Bangalore Metro Phase 2B’s package 3 which is 15km long.
